Let Me Remove Myself
Let Me Remove Myself is an exploration of grief for a marriage that never happened and the loss of a family that was never mine. Thinking about the transformation of the family album from a physical object to digital files, one can easily remove the existence of a past life. Engagement photographs from my long-term relationship are opened with a text editor and digital information is removed, creating unique, corrupted images representing the problems within that relationship. The new images are paired with conversations between my ex-husband, friends, and family regarding doubts about the survival of our lifelong commitments. As a result of this transformation, one is left with the feeling that the only way to move on is to delete the shared memories, as though the relationship never happened.
